ECP notifies senators-elect, except dual nationals | Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: The Electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday issued notices to candidates, except for those who allegedly retain dual citizenship, who were elected to the Senate on March 3.
Notices were published after the senators submitted their election expenses to the ECP.
Senators whose notice was withheld include the Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chaudhry Sarwar, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Haroon Akhtar, Saadia Abbasi and Nujat Siddiqi in the light of the Supreme Court's judgments in the case about dual citizenship.
The Supreme Court on Monday ordered that the Electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP) cease the notification of the declaration of the victory of four persons in the elections to the Senate on Saturday for the possession of two nationalities.
Hearing the case concerning the dual citizenship of judges and civil servants, Chief Judge Sakib Nisar also noted earlier that senators holding dual nationalities were elected in recent elections to the Upper House, but he said he did not know about their names.
