Location:

 

They are present between cell membrane and nucleus.

 

Shape:-

 

They are tube like structures

 

Types:-

 

They are of two types:

 

  1. i) Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum:

 

They do not have ribosomes. They do not involve in protein synthesis.

 

  1. ii) Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum:

 

They have ribosomes. They involve in protein synthesis.

 

Function:

 

  1. i) They help in transport of materials.

 

  1. ii) They help in protein synthesis.

 

iii) They help in formation of lipids.
