KARACHI: At least 10 transport containers have been received, as the authorities of the port of Karachi (KPT) continue on Wednesday to restore the containers that fell into the sea after a collision of two ships, sources said Geo News
Hapeg Lloyd Ship 8 000 TEU Tolt, who was transporting transit containers, collided with another vessel of the 6.350-TEU Hamburg Bay near South Asia Port Terminal Limited (SAPT) on Monday.
While Tolten remained a dock in the port of Karachi, Hamburg left after obtaining permission to pass.
According to sources, the authorities face difficulties in obtaining three containers "deeply immersed in the sea".
During Tuesday, divers tied ropes around 12 containers that were to be taken out by crane today (Wednesday), sources in KPT told Geo News.
The recovery operation is likely to continue for two to three days, said marine experts in Geo News, after which SAPT will open for traffic.
Operations in SAPT, which were suspended after the accident, resume operations after the removal of containers from the sea.
