Man killed after US Embassy car hits motorcycle in Islamabad | Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: One man was killed after a car of the US embassy hit a motorcycle near the neighborhood of Daman-e-Co in the federal capital on Saturday.
The White Land Cruiser (QM 058), operated by the US military attaché, violated the red traffic light to get on the motorbike (ARM 900) about 3 km to Margal Road, according to the CCTV footage of this incident .
Motorcyclist Ateeq Baig – a resident of the suburb of the city of Tihar – died on the spot, while his cousin Rachel was critically injured in the accident. The police took the car into custody.
The case was registered by the police station of Kohsar later that day. The accident was due to the obvious negligence of the driver of the car of the US embassy, according to the First Information Report (FIR).
The US official, who was not arrested because of his diplomatic immunity, is present at the embassy.
Govt, US embassy officials have not yet contacted the family
. Speaking in the media, Father Baiga said that he should still be contacted by government or embassy representatives.
"My son was going to work when he met this catastrophe," Baig's father said. "We have no enemies and we want justice to be served."
He further said that the decision to legally pursue this matter would be taken after consultation with his family.
US Embassy, FO stated that the incident was tested
A statement published by the US embassy confirmed the accident. The embassy is in contact with local authorities to investigate the incident, added in a statement.
Dr. Muhammad Faisal, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the matter was under investigation.
