Mashal case verdict given in absence of family, lawyers: father | Pakistan
PESHAWAR: The verdict in the case of Mashal Khan's linga by the court on combating terrorism in Haripur was announced in the absence of the family and the lawyers of the applicant, said that the murdered student's father Iqbal Khan.
During a press conference in Peshawar on Friday, Iqbal reiterated his reservation in defending 26 accused, saying that it was wrong to show indulgence towards people accused of terrorism.
Speaking about the arrest of Prime Minister Mohammad Arif of Mardan the day before, Mashaal's father stated that the arrest was deliberately postponed. Iqbal implied that the defendant was arrested almost a year later, only to ensure that he was not severely punished.
However, Iqbal demanded that the Supreme Court again decide suo motu on the case of lynching his son, after he heard that he was completed a few days ago.
The deceased's father also talked about the role of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in the case, saying that they had provided the family with a lawyer, but had not yet paid their fees.
He asked the provincial government to play an effective role and said that they asked the Supreme Court for five lawyers to review the case.
Also attending the press conference, Mashal's lawyer, Fazal Khan, said that the head of the ruling CP party, Imran Khan, praised the police, but it took them a year. Another lawyer in the case of Ayaz Khan said that they had challenged the verdict in the Peshawar High Court.
In an appeal to the Peshawar High Court, Mashal's brother Aymal Khan expressed reservations about the verdict, saying that those who were acquitted could be seen in the video about the incident when Mashal was tortured to death.
Mashal was severely beaten and shot at the University of Abdul-Vali Khan by Mardan on blasphemy charges in April 2017. The charges later turned out to be false by the joint investigation team.
