PML-N, allies finalise candidates for Senate chairman, deputy | Pakistan
The Pakistan Muslim League-Navas (PML-N) held a meeting today under the chairmanship of a party supporter and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to decide on their candidates.
The meeting was attended by the elders (19459003)
. Senior management of PML-N also met with the allies, including the leader of the National Party Hasil Bizhenho, the head of Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fa Maulana Fazlur Rehman, as well as independent senators elected by FATA.
Hasil Bizenho talks to the media after the meeting, said that PML-N and the allies have finally determined the names of the chairmen and vice-chairmen, but they will wait for an announcement from the Party of the Pakistani People (PPP) until tonight.
PML-N will return Raz Rabbani if he is appointed PPP for the chairman slot, otherwise Nawaz Sharif will announce the PML-N candidate tomorrow morning, Bizenjo said.
Sources said that in c since the PPP does not offer the name of the last chairman of the Senate, Rza Rabbani, PML-N will withdraw its own candidate for the presidency and let the Allies have the place of deputy chairman.
Earlier, Nawaz suggested that the party support the re-election of Rabbani as chairman of the Senate, but the PPP rejected this step.
After the meeting of PML-N and its allies on Saturday, the leader of the National Party (NP) Hasil Bizenho said that from his party, PML-N had the support of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JI-F), Jamaat -I-Islami (JI) and the Pakhtunkhwa Party Milli Avami (PkMAP).
The leader of the NP added that there were no discussions at the meeting to appoint a chairman from Balochistan. "This is not a Balochistan problem, but a question for allied parties," he said.
