Political leaders react to Sadiq Sanjrani’s election as Senate chairman | Pakistan
Politicians took to express their views after the election of Sadik Sanjrani, a presidential candidate from Balochistan, supported by the opposition, as chairman of the Senate on Monday.
Sanjrani, who provided 57 of the possible 103 votes, was sworn by presiding officer Sardar Yakub Khan.
Sanjari, independent, was supported by the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Pakistan's Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Muttahida Movement of the Kaumi-Pakistan (MQM-P). According to reports, Sanjari also received the support of independent senators elected from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
PPP Chairman Bilawat Bhutto described him as a victory for Balochistan and federalism against "older batsman Ziya" Raji Zafarul Hak (19459010)
PTI Chairman Imran Khan repeated the same views, saying that he was pleased with the people of Baluchistan and the Federation .
PML-N leaders Marriyum Aurangzeb and Talal Chauhdry in a conversation with the media after the elections criticized the parties "who were against each other to fight to defeat PML-N."
"Their real faces were exposed," she said.
The leader of the PML-N, Mariam Nawaz, said that the "pawns" today faced defeat and dared "to appear before the nation."
MQM-P Leader Farouk Sattar also congratulated the new Senate Chairman and said that he would work for promoting democracy.
