Sattar summons consultative meeting of MQM-P leaders | Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: MQM-P Leader Farouk Sattar called members of the Sindh Assembly to his PIB office later today for consultations on the upcoming Senate elections.
At a meeting concluded on Friday evening, Sattar instructed the members of the National Assembly of the party to stay in Islamabad to cast their vote in the Senate elections that were due on March 3.
Sattar previously challenged the election commission of Pakistan's jurisdiction (ECP) to listen to a petition relating to the March 1 convocation of the party.
. The prevalence among members of the party over the nomination of candidates for the upcoming Senate elections earlier led to the appearance of fragmentation groups – Dr. Farooq Sattar led the faction of the PIB colony and the Bahadurabad group, consisting of Amir Khan, Nasrin Jalil, Khalid Makul Siddiq and others.
Petition filed by Sattar 1 Babar Sattar's lawyer argues that the internal affairs of the party can not be heard by the ECP, demanding that the request of the Bahadurabad group be rejected
"MQM-P belongs to party workers, and only they will protect it, "he told reporters outside the premises of the ECP. "They [party workers] announced their verdict in the inner-party elections."
Sattar also said that he chose the constitutional process of holding inner-party elections and obtaining a mandate from the party.
"I proposed a formula if we want to sit down and resolve issues by negotiation, but it was Khalid MacBul Siddiqi who approached the ECP to challenge the constitutional position," he said.
