To avoid disqualification, Ch Sarwar must guarantee he won’t restore UK nationality | Pakistan
LAHOR: Pakistan's Chief Judge Sakib Nisar resumed hearing suo motu on Saturday double citizenship deputies of the Supreme Chamber of Parliament in the Lahore registry.
During the hearing, the elected senator from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chodhri Mohammad Sarwar told the court that he had renounced his British citizenship in 2013
The Chief Justice asked whether he refused he is from his British nationality forever or temporarily, to which lawyer Sarvar said that under British law, citizenship can be restored.
For this, Judge Nisar noted that Sarvar temporarily abandoned his British nationality only so that he could "become governor and, having received mandates, restore his [British] nationality."
] The Chief Justice noted that Sarwar must give an undertaking so that he never regained his British nationality.
If you restore your British citizenship, then it will require disqualification, said Judge Nisar.
. The Chief Justice noted this week that the top court will decide on the dual citizenship of the senators until the election of the Senate chairman on March 12.
Also this week, the Supreme Court ordered that the Electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP) cease the notification of the declaration of the victory of four persons in the Senate elections for the possession of dual nationalities. Following the order, ECP denied notifications of Chaudhry Sarwar PTI, Pakistan Muslim League – "Harun Akhtar", "Saadiya Abbasi" and "Nuhat Sadik".
