US consulate promotes Paralympics as part of sports diplomacy initiative | Sports
KARACHI: Acting General Consul John Warner welcomed about 70 different athletes, as well as their parents and mentors from Para Sports Pakistan to the consulate for the Paralympic sports Diplomatic event on Wednesday, according to a press release.
A statement from the US consulate states that the athletes participated in football with a family with visually impaired and tennis for wheelchairs, as well as US officers and marines from the United States Consulate General in Karachi.
The event was organized to mark the 2018 Paralympic Games in Pyeong Chang, Korea, to be held March 9-18, 2018.
The event is part of the consulate series (19459008)
Acting General Consul Warner said: "Paralympic sport is much more than just sport. It's not about winning – it's about competition. It's not about being the fastest or scoring most points, it's about being part of a team or challenging yourself to be your best. These athletes demonstrate qualities that speak to all of us – not as athletes, but as people. I'm incredibly proud of these competitors, they are all winners. "
Mr. Khalid Rehmani, president of Para-Sports Pakistan in his speeches, said that "these wheelchair athletes and those who play football are real heroes." My advice to all of them is to always keep your face in the sun, and the shadows will lag behind you. For all of us, I must say that the only disability in life is a bad attitude. "
