Want to retire without causing any rift between institutions: Rabbani | Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Outgoing Chairman of the Senate Raza Rabbani said on Tuesday that he wants to leave his post without causing any gap between institutions.

The President of the Senate mentioned this in written policy with regard to the judiciary.

Rabbani said that the Supreme Court in the past decided that he would not interfere in the affairs of parliament.

Then the chief justice of Pakistan gave this verdict in the case of Zulfikar Bhutta, the chairman of the Senate said, adding that the top court gave this verdict in accordance with Article 69 of the Constitution.

"I want to draw the attention of the current CJP to it," said Rabbani.

He further said that the decision should be considered by the entire judicial system.

Raza Rabbani stated that disrespect for the judicial notice given to the Assembly speaker, Unfortunately.

As chairman of the Senate, Rabbani will step down this month, consultations are being held to elect a new chairman.

Political parties double efforts to chair the Senate

The political temperature in the country is growing, as the parties double their efforts to develop strategic alliances before the election as chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate.

The competition between the Pakistan Muslim League-Navas (PML-N) and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) for the two power structures will largely depend on independent senators.

According to reports received by Geo News, political parties come into contact with eight and four newly elected independent senators from Baluchistan and Federally Administered Tribes of the Region, respectively, can change the course of the upcoming poll with the choice of their alliance.

PML-N, however, may consider whether PPP appoints the outgoing chairman of the Senate, Raza Rabbani, according to sources.
